Campaign and Strategic Academic Reorganization Enhances Excellence and Inclusivity

Jamestown, ND (10/02/2024) — University of Jamestown (UJ) has achieved two significant milestones in the second year of their 'Together We Rise' campaign. First, the campaign has contributed $70 million to an $80 million fundraising goal. Second, the University has reorganized academic affairs to allow for expansion of academic programs.

UJ President Dr. Polly Peterson said this remarkable progress serves as a testament to the University's commitment to their strategic plan, as well as to the dedication of UJ's alumni and friends.

"We believe higher education is the catalyst of possibility and progress. It turns dreams into careers and shapes a better world for future generations," said Peterson. "Together, as Jimmies, we have built a history of success. And now, together, we will elevate our institution to new heights."

To grow and expand, UJ has undergone significant renovation and construction on both Jamestown and Fargo campuses, expanded degree programs, and reorganized academic structures.

Previously, academic programs were separated by individual discipline. Now, due to growth and increased enrollment, programs are organized together based on shared interdisciplinary traits into the following ten schools and departments:

This academic reorganization includes a transition in roles for former Assistant Provost and Dean of the Undergraduate College Dr. Chris Redfearn to Vice President for Academic Affairs, and former Provost Dr. Paul Olson to Executive Vice President.

Redfearn, who is now responsible for all undergraduate and graduate academic programs, commented on the benefits of UJ's restructuring: "We are committed to creating an academic structure that not only supports our students' educational journeys but also fosters a vibrant and inclusive community. By aligning our programs, we ensure that each student benefits from the collective expertise and resources of our faculty."

Olson, who will now concentrate on strategic initiatives and growth said, "We have an opportunity for tremendous growth and development alike, providing even more possibilities for students or employers to look to UJ for their career development needs."

Three part-time administrative deans were also added to oversee academic and faculty affairs. Dr. Sara Voorhees has been appointed graduate academic dean, Dr. Kristin Lefebvre is the graduate faculty dean, and Dr. Jakob Barnard serves as the Dean of Undergraduate Academic Affairs.

President Peterson said this leadership model will ensure that each dean continues to engage with their academic areas while bringing a focused approach to their administrative roles.

"Our goal is to empower our faculty and staff to lead with integrity and inspire through their dedication to education," she added. "This new structure will allow us to harness the strengths of our community, enhancing our commitment to lifelong learning and academic excellence."
