University of Jamestown

Psi Chi is the national Honor Society in Psychology. Students must rank in the top 35% of their class and have a 3.00 GPA in all psychology courses to be eligible for membership.

Pi Lambda Theta, an international honor society and professional association in education. Students must have a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher and be a second semester sophomore in education.

Lambda Pi Eta, the National Collegiate Communication Honor Society, admits to membership students who have completed twelve semester hours in communication with at least a 3.25 grade point average in those courses, have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher and rank in the top 35% of their class.

Beta Beta Beta is a National Biological Honor Society. To be eligible for membership, students must have completed three biology courses, including at least one beyond the introductory level, with GPA of 3.00 or higher in all biology courses.

Alpha Mu Gamma, the National Collegiate Foreign Language Honor Society, admits to membership students who have received grades of A in at least two courses in the same foreign language at the college level. The local chapter is Mu Rho.

Alpha Chi, the National College Honor Scholarship Society, is a coeducational society whose purpose is to promote academic excellence and exemplary character among college and university students and to honor those achieving such distinction. Local chapters admit to active membership those junior and senior students of good character who rank in the upper tenth of their class.

The College Fellow is awarded to a limited number of outstanding junior or senior students who ar e selected each year by the faculty. Recipients are to be of exemplary character, possess an overall cumulative grade point of 3.3 or better as well as a cumulative grade point of 3.5 or better in their major. A Fellow may tutor or teach under the direction of the departme nt chair, and holds rank just below that of the college Instructor.

This award is given by the Theatre Department to recognize students who epitomize versatility and quality in both performance and technical theatre.

This award is presented to the junior student showing the greatest promise in teacher education. The award was founded by the class of 1926 in memory of Clyde R. Travis, former head of the Teacher Education Department.

This award is given to the student(s) showing the greatest potential as a successful teacher and professional person. Selection criteria include leadership and accomplishments in school, community, pre-professional organizations, and competitive functions, as well as high academic ranking.

This award is presented to student(s) in the Education Department for outstanding achievement.

This award is given for exemplary work in the department.

This award is given annually to an outstanding psychology undergraduate who has demonstrated a high level of achievement in the department of psychology.

This award is given annually to a graduating senior majoring in psychology who has demonstrated a high level of achievement.

This award is presented to the University of Jamestown nursing student who has been selected for one of the following honors by the NDNSA (North Dakota Nursing Student Association): North Dakota Student Nurse of the Year, President of NDNSA, or recipient of NDNSA State Leadership Award. This award represents not only the internalization of the leadership role of the nurse by the student, but also its implementation, as evidenced by the student's participation and recognition in NSA.

This award is presented in honor of Dr. Ruth Strutz to a UJ Senior Nursing Student (s) selected by the nursing faculty who exemplifies outstanding adult learning characteristics.

This award is presented to a Senior UJ Nursing Student(s), selected by the nursing faculty, for outstanding academic achievement, contribution to co-curricular activities, and leadership potential in professional nursing.

This award recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the instrumental program at the University of Jamestown

This award recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the choral program at the University of Jamestown.

This award is presented to a Senior UJ Nursing Student (s) who, in the opinion of the faculty, has contributed the most effort to assist student learning within the nursing program.

This award is given each year to the junior or senior music major who has demonstrated outstanding accomplishment in her/his music studies at the University of Jamestown.

These awards are presented to the most out-standing junior or senior majors who hold a minimum GPA of 3.3, have demonstrated professional service and strong leadership ability, and/or show great promise in graduate school.

This award is given in recognition of high inspiration, unselfish dedication to theprinciples of American democracy, and superior academic performance.

This award is named in honor of Felix Wirz, 1962 graduate of Jamestown College from Basel, Switzerland, and Foreign Language Department member from 1970 to 1974. It is awarded to an outstanding student majoring in French, German or Spanish. The student must have a major in one or more languages other than English, have studied abroad, been an officer in Alpha Mu Gamma or the International Student Organization, been an asset to the Foreign Language Department and show promise for working to promote language acquisition after graduation.

This award s awarded to the junior or senior showing the most professional promise in English.

This award is given in recognition of high academic excellence in the field of communication, service to the college and the community and leadership in the communication department.

This award is given to the most outstanding student in general chemistry.

This award, given in honor of Mr. William J. Klaudt, former professor and chair of the Department of Business Administration, is presented to a graduating senior for outstanding overall performance in the Department of Business, Accounting and Economics.

This award is given in recognition of high academic excellence in the field of biology, to a graduating biology major.

This award is given to the highest ranking freshman in biology.
