The Chapter K PEO Awards are given to two junior women and are based on character, scholarship, and leadership.

The Special Olympics Scholarship is an annual scholarship funded by supporters of the Area Nine Special Olympics. The scholarship recipient will be involved in Special Olympics for two or more years, possess a 2.3 GPA or higher, be a certified chaperone or coach for Special Olympics, demonstrate leadership skills, and be an ambassador for community involvement in Special Olympics.

The Plainsong Prizes, like the magazine, are intended to promote and recognize excellence in student writing and artwork. The prizes are made available by the Friends of the Fine Arts. Categories for the Plainsong Prizes include the Tom McGrath Prize for Poetry, The Louise Erdrich Prize for Creative Non-Fiction, the Larry Woiwode Prize for Fiction, and the Plainsong Prize for Photography.

The Kennedy S. Wanner Memorial Trophy was established by the brothers and sisters of Kennedy S. Wanner, a Jamestown College student killed in World War I. The selection is based on the student's scholastic record, participation in intercollegiate athletics, and high ideals.

Sigma Theta Tau International is an Honor Society for nurses which emphasizes scholarship, leadership, research, and education. Only 35% of a class is accepted for membership and a 3.0 GPA is required for student admission.

Psi Chi is the national Honor Society in Psychology. Students must rank in the top 35% of their class and have a 3.00 GPA in all psychology courses to be eligible for membership.

Pi Lambda Theta is an international honor society and professional association in education. Students must have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher and be a second semester sophomore in education to be eligible for membership.

Lambda Pi Eta, the National Collegiate Communication Honor Society, admits to membership students who have completed twelve semester hours in communication with at least a 3.25 grade point average in those courses, have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher and rank in the top 35% of their class.

Beta Beta Beta is a National Biological Honor Society. To be eligible for membership, students must have completed three biology courses, including at least one beyond the introductory level with a GPA of 3.00 or higher in all biology courses.

Alpha Chi, the National College Honor Scholarship Society, is a coeducational society whose purpose is to promote academic excellence and exemplary character among college and university students and to honor those achieving such distinction. Local chapters admit to active membership those junior and senior students of good character who rank in the upper tenth of their class.

The College Fellow is awarded to a limited number of outstanding junior or senior students who are selected each year by the faculty. Recipients are to be of exemplary character, possess an overall cumulative grade point average of 3.3 or better as well as a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better in their major. A Fellow may tutor or teach under the direction of the department chair and holds rank just below that of the college Instructor.

The Jimmie Zanni Award is given by the Theatre Department to recognize students who epitomize versatility and quality in both performance and technical theatre.

The Clyde R. Travis Award is presented to the junior student showing the greatest promise in teacher education. The award was founded by the class of 1926 in memory of Clyde R. Travis, former head of the Teacher Education Department.

The Outstanding Student in Teacher Education Award is given to the students showing the greatest potential as a successful teacher and professional person. Selection criteria include leadership and accomplishments in school, community, pre-professional organizations, and competitive functions, as well as high academic ranking.

The Outstanding Student in Secondary Education Award is presented to the students in the Education Department for outstanding achievement.

The Distinguished Achievement Award in the Department of Nursing is presented to a senior UJ nursing student selected by the nursing faculty for outstanding academic achievement, contribution to co-curricular activities, and leadership potential in professional nursing.

The Outstanding Student in Elementary Education Award is presented to students in the Education Department for outstanding achievement.

The Religion and Philosophy Department Prize is given for exemplary work in the Religion and Philosophy Department.

The Psychology Department Outstanding Achievement Award is given annually to an outstanding psychology undergraduate who has demonstrated a high level of achievement in the department of psychology.

The Psychology Department Outstanding Senior Achievement Award is given annually to a graduating senior majoring in psychology who has demonstrated a high level of achievement.

The Ruth Strutz Adult Learning Award is presented in honor of Dr. Ruth Strutz to UJ Senior Nursing Students selected by the nursing faculty who exemplifies outstanding adult learning characteristics.

The Faculty Recognition Award in Nursing is presented to a Senior UJ Nursing Student who, in the opinion of the faculty, has contributed the most effort to assist student learning within the nursing program.

The Dekrey Instrumental Music Award recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the instrumental program at the University of Jamestown.

The Richard Harrison Smith Choral Prize recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the choral program at the University of Jamestown.

The Music Department Student Achievement Award is given each year to the junior or senior music major who has demonstrated outstanding accomplishment in his/her music studies at the University of Jamestown.

The Janet Joos Mathematics Award is given each year to the sophomore student showing the greatest promise in mathematics. The award was established by Russell D. and Janet M. Joos.

The History Merit Award is given in recognition of superior academic performance and outstanding scholarly contributions in the fields of history and political science.

The Peggy and Merle Foss Outstanding Major of the Year Awards are presented to the most outstanding junior or senior majors who hold a minimum GPA of 3.3, have demonstrated professional service and strong leadership ability, and/or show great promise in graduate school.

The Political Science Merit Award is given in recognition of high inspiration, unselfish dedication tot he principles of American democracy, and superior academic performance.

The Felix Wirz Award for Excellence in Language Study is named in honor of Felix Wirz, 1962 graduate of UJ and Foreign Language Department member from 1970 - 1974. It is awarded to an outstanding student majoring in French, German, or Spanish. The student must have a major in one or more languages othr than English, have studied abroad, been an officer in Alpha Mu Gamma or ISO, been an asset to the Foreign Language Department and show promise for promoting language acquisition after graduation.
